Wax Art

Art is my passion, my sanctuary, and my voice. It's where I find solace and express my thoughts and observations. One of my unique mediums is encaustic painting with wax, where I crush wax instead of melting it, and mix color to weave stories on canvas.

Embers of Anger - 1.jpg

Embers of Anger

I tried to vividly capture the destructive nature of anger, both externally and internally. At the heart of a chaotic rubble, a matchbox and matchsticks lie after flames have been snuffed out, symbolizing the fiery rage that consumes not only our surroundings but also our inner selves.

Parallel Realms

I've drawn inspiration from the concept of parallel worlds depicted in "Stranger Things." and portrayed this duality through contrasting elements. The "Upside Down" world is shrouded in darkness, yet streaks of brilliant blue pierce through, symbolizing the glimmers of hope and possibilities that exist even in the darkest of times.

Eyes of Hope - 1

Eyes of Hope

I've depicted a pair of eyes through the intricate texture and layers of wax, rendered in delicate shades of white - an angelic color palette. I've tried to weave a narrative of resilience and optimism, with the eyes reminding us that beauty and positivity can emerge from the broken dreams represented by the scaly texture.

Sketching /
Pencil Art

With graphite as my medium, I breathe life into the pages, creating intricate worlds and capturing fleeting moments with each stroke of the pencil. I often add a vibrant dance of color, where I layer, blend, and build hues, not merely to capture scenes but to thread color into the fabric of stories told on paper.

Soaring Spirit

This sketch encapsulates the essence of freedom of a woman's flight, paralleling a bird. I chose to use the sun as symbolism of reaching unparalleled heights and new beginnings.

From China to the Gold Mountain

These pieces supported my research project on the immigration of Chinese to America, more specifically, California.

I created four scenes, each depicting a significant event or action that affected the Chinese living in America. The scenes were folded into 3D corners and placed back to back, creating a wheel - to represent the fact that this pattern repeated itself throughout history.

The first scene showcased the problems in China, with people pointing to California, a land of opportunity. The next shows Chinese workers thrilled to be working for wage rates higher than in China, with disgruntled white workers angry at the Chinese for “taking their jobs.” The next depicts the violence and abuse of Chinese laborers and the anti-Chinese political movements and laws. The final scene shows the beginning of Chinatown, the Chinese-owned businesses, and the opportunities afforded to American-born Chinese children through education.
